This session will focus on developing foundational makerspace skills when working alongside students with cardboard. Participants will make a mosaic while learning how teaching bracing and secure attachment techniques with cardboard lays the groundwork for future work with more complex materials.
11:45 - 12:30 PM
Included
12:30-1:00 PM
A look at a campus-wide initiative Dr. Deborah Posner implemented at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, NC to engage more staff and students in project-based learning across the curriculum. Through Innovation Lab Collab, teachers can bring their classes from any subject area or grade level to the makerspace for hands-on activities designed to augment their classroom experience. Learn tips on how to launch a campaign like this at your school to ensure it is both successful and sustainable!
Led by: Dr. Deborah Posner
1:00–2:30 PM
A hands-on session focused on integrating epoxy into school maker programs. Participants will create their own TotalBoat epoxy project while learning practical workflow, safety protocols, budgeting, and scalable classroom implementation strategies.
Led by: Leigh Northrup, Nick (Statedwoods Supply)
Partners: Statedwoods Supply & TotalBoat
2:30–2:45 PM
2:45–4:30 PM
A hands-on session exploring how Boot Camp-style learning builds student independence, tool fluency, and a self-sustaining maker culture. Participants will experience two condensed Boot Camps - a laser-cut coaster and a soil moisture sensor - from the learner's seat, then step back to examine the pedagogy behind each design decision: why the squad model, why the parbaked kit, why the open brief. You'll leave with a replicable framework, a take-home reference doc, and a finished object or two.
